Bummertimes at the gps, back to back

So for the second straight week I started 6-1 and finished 6-3. For those who don’t know what im talking about, at high level magic the gathering tournaments known as grand prix a record of 7-2 is required to move on to the second day of competition. Last week I was so nervous in what was to be my 7th victory that I made multiple mistakes and rules violations(missed triggers) that I was given a game loss and I lost my match. I then lost to one of my worst match ups. This week I told myself I would be extra vigilant and not make play mistakes as well as try to think clearly about everything. Where as last week was a constructed event (you bring your deck to the event) and I was really happy about the deck I was playing, this week was sealed (everyone opens new cards and builds their deck from the cards they open) and the cards I got were pretty terrible and I thought it would be extremely difficult to make day 2.

Throughout the day I played people with far superior cards than I had and I still managed to win almost all of my matches. I played against former US national champion Michael Jacob and managed to steal a victory to start of at 5-0. At this point In the tournament the decks with such good records are better and better and I just felt outgunned at every point, yet I managed to set myself up for day two going into the final round and for the for the 4th time in the las 5 events in which I was on track to do very well in I was paired up against a friend of mine with a deck that was much better against my deck. This time it was Evan and his card pool was bonkers. I joked before we started that I would miraculously win game 1 and he’d just crush me in games two and 3 and that’s pretty much what happened. Chance plays a big partof this game and that’s why its fun but sometimes I get pretty bummed when the die roll always goes the way of everyone else but me (I went 1-6 in die rolls yesterday.)

Ps I’m going todo a full write up of the tourney and my sealed pool prolly on the way home, also it has been an absolute blast hanging out with jburk, Tom, Jess, Justin and chance I don’t know what I would have done without them helping me shake off such heartbreaking losses.
